Oquirrh Lake
Oquirrh Lake at Daybreak
What began as a smart way to manage Daybreak’s water needs is becoming one of the most remarkable community amenities in the country — a beautiful lake and wildlife haven. Oquirrh Lake represents Kennecott Land’s approach to development — innovative, balanced and sustainable. Like Daybreak itself, the lake is an amenity that makes sense for both the environment, and people, too.
Oquirrh Lake provides a scenic destination that’s close to home for Daybreak homeowners and area residents. It is an ideal place for quality time with family and friends, and an enhancement to the Salt Lake Valley as a whole. For more information on Oquirrh Lake, visit www.daybreakutah.com/.
The 60-acre lake’s shore is lined with natural grasses, picnic areas, marina, trails and natural wildlife habitat bringing the project total, when finished, to 160 acres. That’s the size of a 9-hole golf course! Eight miles of primary and secondary trails will offer extensive walking and biking opportunities. A network of attractive auto and pedestrian bridges will link the land areas around the lake to an island. The bridges have 26 feet of clearance, allowing small sailboats to pass beneath. Non-motorized boating keeps the lake clean and serene. Swimming will be prohibited, but only to protect the lake’s natural balance, and the well being of its resident wildlife. A healthy fish population offers excellent angling opportunities.
Eco-Friendly
From its early concept phase, Oquirrh Lake has been about balance and sustainability. It was designed to play a vital role in Daybreak’s water management and conservation plan. It’s part of an efficient system that conserves culinary water by using secondary water from Utah Lake and the Jordan River water rights to fill the lake and irrigate open space around it. Acre-for-acre, the lake uses less water than it would take to irrigate a golf course.
Careful maintenance ensures the water stays clean and clear. Oquirrh Lake will continue providing natural habitat to indigenous birds, plants, and animals.
