Kennecott Land

Daybreak schools

Daybreak Elementary
The Daybreak Elementary School and Community Center was the first testament to Kennecott Land’s education vision. It is the first public school in Utah that is both a school and a neighborhood learning and community center. More than 1,100 students are receiving a quality education in an innovative open classroom setting with access to more facilities than a typical elementary school. Their families and neighbors can take part in a variety of fitness and community activities at the adjoining Daybreak Community Center.

The 116,700 square foot facility was conceived and developed in a partnership between the Jordan School District and Kennecott Land. The school and community center are environmentally innovative as well -- with ground-source heating and cooling, an abundance of natural lighting in halls and classrooms and areas designed for outdoor learning. Another unique school feature is the cafeteria that doubles in size by opening up the gymnasium. A stage separates the gym and cafeteria and can be used from either side accommodating large and small audiences.

Eastlake Elementary
In August 2008, Eastlake Elementary School welcomed its inaugural class. This important educational milestone continues Kennecott Land's commitment to education and the important role it plays in sustainable development. It also continues the partnership with the Jordan School District to plan and open high-quality schools in Daybreak.

The school is a unique two-story design with large windows in every classroom, collaboration kivas, beautiful media center, spacious gym with stage area, and computer lab with the latest technology. Like our first school, Daybreak Elementary, Eastlake Elementary is also connected to a major community amenity. This time it's a large park in Eastlake Village, which gives school children vast play areas and facilities for soccer, tennis, basketball and swimming.

Early Light Academy
Conceived by a group of Daybreak residents to provide young students with a high-quality education and deep, rich curriculum, the Early Light Academy is a public charter school that welcomed its inaugural class in fall 2009.

The school building takes advantage of sustainable components. All the classrooms are placed on the south side of the building to provide the most solar exposure, and constant and controllable day lighting. The significant amount of glass on the south side provides greater access to views and light. Exterior sun shades are provided to reduce heat gain and glare. These are a few of the many features that make the Early Light Academy a great place to learn.
