Energy StarĀ®

Every home at Daybreak is built to United States Environmental Protection Agency Energy Star® program specifications and is the largest community in the nation to pledge to be Energy Star®. What are the benefits of owning an Energy Star® home? Lower utility costs for the homeowner and a reduction in harmful greenhouse gas emissions to the environment. The average utility savings per household, based on an average 2200 square foot house, are approximately $400 annually. That same home will offset greenhouse gas emission by approximately 4.49 metric tones of Carbon Dioxide Equivalent (CDE) annually. At full build out of 20,000 units, Daybreak’s Energy Star® homes will contribute to an overall greenhouse gas emissions savings of approximately 58,596 metric tones of CDE annually and removing 10,477 passenger cars from the road.

So what does 58,596 tons of CDE equate to?

  • 10,477passenger cars not driven for one year
  • 6,670,701 gallons of gasoline
  • 1,501,763 tree seedlings grown for ten years
  • 480 acres of forest preserved from deforestation

The numbers are derived from converting the average pounds of CO2 multiplied by 20,000 homes. This number is then calculated into Carbon Dioxide Equivalent (CDE) using The US Climate Technology Corporation Gateway Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator. http://www.usctcgateway.gov/resources/ToolsDetail.cfm?LinkAdvID=64471
