Kennecott Land

Education

Kennecott Land is committed to providing outstanding educational opportunities for all stages of life. Educational facilities serve as the anchors for strong, cohesive neighborhoods. It is one of our core principles of sustainability to make a commitment to education, ensuring our children become well-prepared today for the demands of tomorrow.

Our first school, Daybreak Elementary School, was developed in the true spirit of partnership with the Jordan School District. Opened in August 2005, this modern facility is unique as it is one of the first elementary schools in Utah with an attached recreation center. While children are learning in this bright, new school parents can be next door in the recreation center attending an exercise class or hosting a meeting in one of the conference rooms.

Daybreak Elementary School and Community Center is unique for another reason. Through careful planning the school was designed to be environmentally efficient with ground source heating and cooling and an abundance of natural lighting. This reduces the cost of heating and cooling considerably.

Daybreak's second school, Eastlake Elementary, welcomed its inaugural class in August 2008.  The school is a unique two-story design with large windows in every classroom, collaboration kivas, beautiful media center, spacious gym with stage area, and computer lab with the latest technology. Like our first school, Daybreak Elementary, Eastlake Elementary is also connected to a major community amenity. This time it's a large park in Eastlake Village, which gives school children vast play areas and facilities for soccer, tennis, basketball and swimming.

Daybreak welcomed its first charter school and the third school to be opened in the community when the Early Light Academy welcomed its inaugural class on Aug. 31, 2009.  The Early Light Academy was developed by a group of Daybreak residents. In addition to many other impressive features, the building incorporates many sustainable components by taking advantage of passive solar heat and incorporating evaporative cooling to save energy and utilize natural light, which has been shown to increase student learning.

Our vision for education starts with the knowledge that when residents have access to high quality educational opportunities, the economy and social issues around them improve. Through careful planning for future educational facilities along the West Bench, Kennecott Land is showing its support for quality education in Utah. We understand that a well-educated work force will help future generations enjoy prosperity in the Salt Lake Valley.
